Headroom Executive assistant Marylva on the key to a successful EA- Executive partnership

For our Headroom Heads series, we sat down with Marylva Guardiola, a talented, energetic Headroom EA with a background in tourism & event management, to talk about the key to a successful EA – Executive partnership

When did your EA journey start, and how?

After working in the tourism industry for almost 6 years, I was ready for a new adventure. In 2016, I graduated and received my Hotel and Event Management diploma. Deep down I knew that I always wanted to do something related to this. Since my studies I have always been obsessed with organizing and planning, so when the opportunity came to become an EA at Headroom I knew this was it.

You’ve been working closely with different entrepreneurs and high-achieving individuals: for you, what makes an executive more successful?

In my opinion communication is a key skill to have as a leader. The more (and better) you communicate with your team and EA, the more you’ll get to know each other and you’ll be able to build a strong professional relationship, which in my opinion ensures the best results.

The key to a successful Executive Assistant-Executive partnership is communication.
The coolest or most unusual task you’ve helped an executive with?

I haven’t had that many unusual tasks. But I have definitely been challenged with planning meetings for a crazy amount of people with the wildest agendas, which could cost me hours to plan, but all worth it in the end.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Headroom?

Definitely my colleagues! I am super thankful to be part of such a supportive and diverse team. I also love the fact that every day can be different.

Every member is different, which makes working at Headroom so much fun. I meet people from many different companies on a daily basis and I’m learning so much about all these different industries. And the best part of it all is that I can work remotely and that I can travel while doing my job.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of starting their EA career at Headroom?

Do it! I have been working here for a few months now, and I have already learned so much.

Like many others, it has been a challenge for me to quit a job I was comfortable with for so long. But looking back at it, starting at Headroom was such a great decision. I immediately felt welcomed by the team, there are several growth opportunities. And I have already mentioned you can do your job wherever you want to?

A productivity tool or hack you can’t do without/everyone should use

I just always have to write everything down in my notes. My notes are always open on my laptop, no matter what I am doing.

Where do you see Headroom in 10 years?

The Headroom concept is so unique and I believe that this will make the company even more successful than it already is. Especially now that we live in a time where working remotely is becoming the new normal, Headroom will be the perfect solution if you need an EA for a certain amount of hours monthly, without increasing headcount.

In 10 years Headroom will not only be a success in The Netherlands and the USA but they will be super successful globally!
