Navigating success: Shirley Meijer on mastering remote work and the entrepreneurial journey at Headroom

For our Headroom Heads series, we sat down with Shirley Meijer, our Sales Manager.
When and how did you start at Headroom? And what attracted you to it??
I started at Headroom in February 2024. I was really interested in working remotely and was following many people on LinkedIn who were posting about this topic. One of those people was Elvira Tibboel-Clemens, who travels the world on her boat while working remotely! Awesome, right? She posted a podcast featuring two team members from Headroom: Sonja and Alessio. I listened to the podcast, and at the end, they mentioned they were looking for a new salesperson.I looked into the company and liked the business model and company culture. It seemed like a perfect fit. I applied, and Samora invited me for a call the same day!
What’s your favorite thing about working at Headroom?
What I love about Headroom is that, aside from the perks of working remotely, I really feel at home here. I feel that my work is being appreciated, that my employer trusts me to do my job and that there is a big focus on positivity. I’ve had the chance to work with various tech tools like Slack, Leapsome, Notion, Pipedrive, Surfe, and many more. Setting up dashboards to be more data-driven was really enjoyable. For Headroom and its members, being tech-savvy is important, and there is always room for new ideas. Want to test a new tool? Go ahead. Need a subscription for it? Do it! Additionally, I love meeting so many C-level managers and entrepreneurs. This is very inspiring in our business!
What’s your role at Headroom? What’s your main area of focus daily?
As a Sales Manager for Headroom, my main focus is adding new members. Daily, I connect with CEOs and entrepreneurs, reach out to potential new members, and do sales calls. I handle the contracts and am responsible for the full sales cycle.
You’ve been in close contact with different entrepreneurs and high-achieving individuals: for you, what makes an entrepreneur more successful?
An entrepreneur is more successful when they can focus on the bigger picture and main goals by effectively delegating tasks and not wanting to control everything. This is where Headroom comes in. We help entrepreneurs by managing tasks such as inbox and calendar management, administration, meetings, action points, travel arrangements, reservations, and so much more. This allows them to focus on their core goals without distractions.
Collaboration is key in any workplace. How do you maintain strong relationships with colleagues, especially while working remotely?
It’s important to check in regularly with colleagues. I love that most of us are quite active on Slack, where we share fun and personal stories too. We also have regular team events, which I love!
Where do you see Headroom in 10 years?
I believe Headroom is on the right path to rapid growth, and I’m excited to be part of this journey. Even though people are going back to offices again, Headroom has been successfully working remotely for so long, and I believe this trend is here to stay. It offers great flexibility for CEOs and entrepreneurs, and I think more and more of them will see the value in this.
